I spent the last couple of days getting ready for a birthday party segment that I taped this morning for one of the local morning shows. We profiled 3 cool birthday party ideas for kids and then some DIY cakes and treats. I can’t wait to be able to share it with you. For one of the parties, I wanted to show how you don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars on a custom cake so that your daughter can have the princess cake of her dreams. In fact, it’s totally doable to make it yourself. I had made a princess cake once before, but the stress of having to replicate it for tv started to make me think that it was just sheer luck that made my first attempt so successful. Not so. I did it again. And, it was still SUPER SIMPLE! Take a look at how awesome the cake looks:
How did I do it you ask? Both times, I followed this how to video on Betty Crocker.com. Whether you’re a boxed cake kind of cook or you prefer to start from scratch, the website has a ton of great cake and cupcake decorating ideas for all sorts of occasions and they seem totally doable. Take a look when planning your next occasion or even for Halloween treats.
For the princess cake, I used 2 boxed cake mixes and 2 cans of frosting. Then just grab a fashion doll or your child’s favorite princess doll and you’ll be good to go.
