With this Polar Vortex nonsense that we’ve had to endure, we’ve found ourselves playing a lot more music in our house than normal. It’s really helped keep the mood up as we get stuck inside again and again. It’s been lovely to have music on (especially with the kids DJ’ing) as opposed to the din of the television as we bake our umpteenth batch of chocolate chip cookies and have Zingo and Gin Rummy marathons. Most of our rooms are wired for sound but not the kid’s bedrooms. Big had been asking for a speaker system and so after a quick search online I ordered him Jawbone’s Mini Jambox. This portable little Bluetooth speaker is incredible.
First off is the stunning design. It comes in 9 colors, and each color features a different grill design. We opted for graphite (shown below) but we just saw the Navy in the Apple store and it’s gorgeous. The prices on Amazon do seem to vary by color so that may help dictate which color you wind up with. They also carry it at Apple but it appears to be more there.
It measures at 6.6 inches x 1.6 inches x 5.4 inches which is roughly the size of a box of Mike & Ikes. It is small enough that it fits in your pocket (if one was so inclined…), and that means that you can take it anywhere. Given its size, the sound quality is exceptional. The set up was super simple to do, and it connected easily to both of our iPhones. Because it has a microphone in it, it actually doubles as a speaker phone for our cellphones, and it pauses the music automatically during the call. It has a 10 hour battery life which is great especially for taking it on family outings. We brought it on a ski trip this weekend and used it all weekend, and the battery lasted. The speaker has small rubber feet on each corner providing stability even at full volume which is how Big seems to like listening to his music (welcome teen years). Big has been loving having music in his room and the extra freedom he gets we he journey’s into different rooms in the house. Truth be told, I like listening to what he’s listening to as well – Not because I’m a fan of his music, but I do like to know what he thinks is cool these days. It’s much better than having a pre-teen with earbuds sticking out of his ears all day, too.
We’ve been so impressed with it that I just bought a second one for husband who travels a lot and enjoys listening to music (Miles Davis, Kind of Blue) as he works in his hotel rooms. This is truly a great accessory to throw in your carry on and bring on family vacations, out to the park or the beach. And the cool designs mean that it will appeal to the stylish music enthusiast in your house (phew!)
