Mother’s day is May 11th! To celebrate moms in Chicago, we thought it would be fun to ask four fellow Chicago mamas about their favorite Mother’s day. We also asked them a couple of questions about our great Windy City. Enjoy!
Lindsey owns Beauty & Brawn Art Gallery and Think Space
She lives in Logan Square with her two adorable girls
Describe your favorite Mother’s Day: Wake up lazily with my two girls, have my coffee and a good croissant, go for a quick run, then indulge in a mini-spa package at Spa Soak in Bucktown. The perfect end to my “me-centered” day would be having friends over to eat and drink and watch our littles run wild. Sounds dreamy….
What is your favorite restaurant with kids in Chicago: Riverview Tavern in Roscoe Village
Favorite family activity in Chicago: Packing a picnic (must have Roeser’s doughnuts!) and heading down to Montrose Beach with friends. Perfect family spot with an incredible view of the city.
Favorite hidden gem in the city: Chilapan on Armitage- great for dates or a night out with the girls. BYOB, Delicious, cozy and affordable.

Anna owns Silly Monkey Baby
She lives in Northwest Chicago with her three beautiful children
Describe your favorite Mother’s Day: A couple of years ago we packed a picnic lunch and headed to Botanic Gardens to spend the day outdoors with the sun shining bright. After waiting on the Lake Cook Road exit ramp for 40 minutes, we had to come up with Plan B because the long wait was turning unbearable with three little kids in the back seat. Gilson Beach in Wilmette was one of my favorite places to go growing up and for whatever reason it popped into my head at that moment of panic. We ended up finding the perfect grassy area near the park where we ate, played ball and hung out relaxing without a crowd. The park is in the sand so it was an added bonus to have fun with our shoes off.
What is your favorite restaurant with kids in Chicago: Cheesecake Factory next to Water Tower
Favorite family activity in Chicago: The kids love all things downtown so we often take the Metra in and just explore our awesome city. We play tourists and try something new every time like ride the water taxi or a trolley or just take a walk and see what we stumble upon.
Emily owns Preggers
She lives in Lincoln Park with her two lovely young children
Describe your favorite Mother’s Day: Every Mother’s Day has been special because each has been unique. My first Mother’s Day I was able to cherish the experience of becoming a mother but I’d have to say Mother’s Day 2013 was my favorite. Having a nearly two year old and three year old made for a fun, energetic day. My children were at an age when any holiday is a celebration and my husband helped them make the day so special. We woke up to cuddles in bed, homemade gifts, and love filling our home. Our family loves being outdoors and May in Chicago seems to be the time when we can finally start getting out of hibernation. We grabbed the double stroller, stopped for sandwiches and snacks to put in our picnic basket, and headed to the lakefront path. We strolled the path enjoying the sun and headed South toward Millennium Park. On the way we stopped and had a great lunch on our blanket in a small park off the lake, made our way toward the bean where we played tourists for the afternoon. The fresh air tired out the kiddos so my husband and I were able to walk home and reminisce about becoming parents while the kids snoozed. Being a mother is my greatest joy and it’s fun to spend the day with the people who made it possible.
What is your favorite restaurant with kids in Chicago: Our favorite family restaurant is Roots Handmade Pizza. The kids love watching the chefs make their pizza and really enjoy playing with the dough at the table while we wait for our food. My husband and I enjoy the great beer selection and relaxing environment but the most anticipated part of the evening is always heading next door to West Town Bakery for cake balls!
Favorite family activity in Chicago: As I mentioned before we love to be outdoors and I love running! Our favorite family activity is taking part in the many amazing family friendly races that are offered all year long! You will see us turkey trotting, running for the zoo, and more.
Favorite hidden gem in the city: I don’t know if I have a favorite hidden gem in the city, I actually think I am always searching for something special. I think one of the most exciting parts about living in a city is the ability to try new restaurants, discover new neighborhoods, and explore all the amazing things the city has to offer.

Describe your favorite Mother’s Day: We usually have a family brunch that the dads prepare and then, if it’s nice, take a walk to a nearby park for some playtime and pictures.
What is your favorite restaurant with kids in Chicago: Club Lucky is always great – fast service, crayons for the kids, flexible menu and cups with lids. We also love Irazu. [Having never heard of Irazu ourselves, we checked it out online. It’s traditional Costa Rican dining. We can’t wait to bring our kids and write a full review].
Favorite family activity in Chicago: Taking the bus down to Lincoln Park Zoo in summer.
Favorite hidden gem in the city: My husband and daughter love taking field trips to Challengers Comics at 1845 N. Western Avenue. They have a nice selection for little kids and a little reading room.
