As if I needed another reason to shop for Jewelry at Liberty United, one of my favorite jewelry companies that I wrote about a yr ago, I just got another awesome one. They’ve recently addded Cook County, Illinois as one of their partner communities. Let me explain why this should matter to you. Liberty United’s mission is to take illegal firearms and bullets off the streets and turn them into beautiful pieces of jewelry. Proceeds from the sale of the jewelry go directly to programs in their partner communities that are aimed at reducing gun violence. Each piece features the serial number of an illegal gun or bullet that has been removed from circulation. As parents raising children in Chicago, it stands to reason, that we are all concerned about the escalating gun violence in this city. Recently during Chicago Ideas Week, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart, announced that 1,500 guns that his department seizes off the streets, (that would normally be incinerated), will be given to LU to be turned into jewelry. A portion of the proceeds will go back to Cook County non-profit groups, starting with Children’s Home + Aid, which provides services to at risk families in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood. Not only will the money go to this important cause but by wearing the jewelry we will be reminded that gun violence touches us all and that no one is immune.
The collections include bracelets, necklaces and rings priced from $35 all the way up to $1,600. This is jewelry that every mother needs to wear! Here’s a look at some of the pieces available. I can’t think of a more meaningful holiday gift for my mom friends. Most pieces can be engraved.
