Are you there? 6th, 7th, 8th grade? I’m sure you’ve noticed the social dynamic is changing. It did for us too! There were suddenly dances, bar mitzvahs and co-ed movie trips and hang out sessions. The kids are ready. The girls & boys want to mix and interact with each other. But, sometimes when it comes right down to those first few minutes of interaction they need a little help… an ice breaker if you will. The Bean Boozled Game is the perfect solution!! Oh, how I wish this little game existed when I was in middle school. Let me explain.
I still remember the first time I put the jelly bean game to good use. Big & his friend were hanging out with 3 girls. There wasn’t much conversation going on, if any at all, which is funny because they all went to school together. After 20 minutes of awkward silence, I asked Big to come see me. Without saying a word, I put this jelly bean game in his hand.
He went back to the group, and they started playing it. They wound up sitting around laughing and chatting for over 2 hrs that night. The game was just what they needed to get the conversation going. I especially love that they had real interactions with each other without screens and texting. It was like back in the good old days!
It’s a super simple concept. The game includes a spinner and a dish of jelly beans with 10 wild and weird flavors and 10 look-alike tasty beans. The jelly bean pairs are identical so you cannot tell the good from the bad. Is it buttered popcorn or rotten egg? Is it tutti-fruitti or stinky socks? Spin the wheel, pick a bean and find out. You may or may not get BeanBoozled!
The game can be played with a small group, large group, in a small space (perfect for apartments, dorm rooms or hotel rooms), or out in the backyard. You could even bring it to a restaurant. It’s been such a success that I always keep a few sets in the house and pull it out for gatherings. It’s suitable for younger ages as well- my 7yr old loves playing it with her friends.
