There really isn’t much not to love at Club Lucky in the hip Bucktown area. I realize that “hipster chic” and “family friendly” don’t normally go well together, but I think I found the rare juxtaposition of the two.
Fundamentally, if you’ looking for a fun and kid friendly place to take the kids, but still feel like you’re enjoying an upscale night out -martini’s included- then Club Lucky’s restaurant and cocktail lounge is a sure bet. The restaurant itself has a great vibe-think retro 70’s speakeasy mashed with old world Italian and a dash of Bucktown edge. In the front lounge area, there is a beautiful bar that stretches along the length of the room. While the weather is still nice you can enjoy your meal on the adjacent outdoor patio. The dining room is a few steps up from the bar, and is always bustling, a sure sign that you’re in for a good meal. There are roomy booths, large tables and their signature martini’s are a strong pour- you’ll want some elbow room.
When it comes to the food, I’m not sure you can go wrong. The whole family will love diving into the warm bread and the best garlic infused olive oil. Then we suggest you order their famous calamari which can be prepared 3 ways (including grilled) with a subtle pepper and balsamic tang while your kids nosh on the al dente spaghetti and homemade meatballs.
The portions are large, but not in an off-putting way (say like a Vegas buffet line). They are just enough so that your enjoyment of the double cut lamb chops can be supplemented with your kids chicken parm…
Due to the elbow room and boisterous party-level noise, kids fit in well here. Kid having a tantrum? Spill a drink? Drop a fork? Only your waiter will notice, and they’ll be right over to help you out. They seem to be well trained on making families feel welcome.
We say it’s a great fun way for children to step out with their parents rather than be left at home. Just make sure to call ahead and make a reservation.
