It’s probably not going to come as a big surprise to you that we go to a lot of indoor play spaces and activity centers. But we do! It just sort of goes along with the territory of being a city parent, living through polar vortex #97 and writing a family blog. Yesterday, we made a big discovery. HUGE! We found the latest entrant into the play space category, Explore & Much More. This 2-story educational play space in Lakeview for kids 0-8 recently came under new ownership. While we didn’t know the previous owners, we can say that the new ones clearly know what they’re doing. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, so with that said take a look at the awesomeness that is housed under this roof:
The enormous rock climbing wall which is open all day.
Large Bouncy House
Climbing structure & slide
Obstacle Course area that the kids can customize
A theatre, a puppet window and a costume closet that rivals all others.
The dress up area is stocked with so many choices including ALL the Disney princesses. Of course, Little chose a pirate costume over all the princess ones, but I’m trying to look at it as a proud moment. There are also firefighters, knights, and our hometown favorites like the Hawks and Bears.
A boat for the Captain!
…and so many other areas like a grocery store, kitchen area, marble run and reading nook.
For little folks, there is a train table, huge collection of trucks and cars and a crawler’s only area. Open play is Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:00pm. $12 admission allows you to play all day and you are welcome to leave and come back, which is especially nice for anyone who still has a “napper”. It’s also great if you want to play for a while and then head to one of the area restaurants for some lunch and then come back to hit the rest of the activities. The owners of Explore & Much More also own the restaurant next door, Lulu Belle’s, and admission to the play space gets you 15 % off your bill there. If you don’t want to leave for lunch, they have a separate area downstairs where you can enjoy a snack or drinks. They have a number of classes throughout the week, and all classes include open play for the day with the admission price. Party packages are available, and weekend open play hours vary depending on the event schedule. Check their website for the latest information and schedule.
This is a truly great resource for city parents. Little called it “The best place to play ever”!
Tip: As you might expect, their busy times are between 9-11am and 3pm-5pm. When Little was there from 12-3 she practically had the place to herself.
